Based in Elk Rapids, Michigan (one of the premier vacation destinations on the Great Lakes), Right Tree is a charity established in 2011 to help girls discover their worth, their gifts, their voice and their future. Within a Christian framework, our summer program, Right Tree Summer Adventures is for girls going into 7th, 8th & 9th grades. We use outdoor recreation, adventure programming, community service, craziness and outside-the-box fun to speak positively into their lives. Whether we are backpacking in Kentucky, kayaking Pictured Rocks, renovating low-income housing in Detroit, competing in our own version of Chopped, or fighting paintball battles on a private island every event is themed and provide opportunities for girls to share, discuss and address critical issues in their lives. The fun stuff is the fun stuff, but the important stuff happens around campfires and discussion groups as we visit themes like social media, relationships, lies girls believe about themselves, body image, anxiety and depression among others. Programs are divided between off-site multi-day trips, local day-camp style programming & single day drop-in events. A small college-age staff of 4 work with girls in both small group (8-30) and one-on-one settings.

The first qualification is a LOVE for working with middle school girls. The second is being comfortable with the outdoors, camping, hiking, swimming, boating, etc., and all the bugs, weather, sounds, and risks that go along with that. A background in outdoor recreation, camping, outdoor sports will be helpful. A major in education, social work, recreation will also be helpful. Creativity, imagination, out-of-the-box thinking, a willingness to celebrate, explore and enjoy life are requirements. The hope & desire to use yours faith and your story to speak positively into the lives of teen girls is a must. Good listeners are appreciated. Many of our activities and discussion times are staff-directed. God wants to use you life and experiences and stories and personality in powerful ways in the lives of teens.

While Right Tree was not set up as a religious organization, and participants of any, or no, faith are welcome to participate, everyone in leadership has a deep relationship with Jesus Christ. As empathy fades, friendships struggle, face-to-face conversation disappears and girls’ self-worth is battered, our technology-free, spend-time-together events help girls discover they are not alone in their struggles, they were created for a purpose, they bring something to this world no one else does, they ARE enough just they way they are, their circumstances do not control their future, they are growing into someone even more amazing, and the Creator of the universe knit them together in their mother's womb and they are fearfully and wonderfully made. Our focus is to speak positively into girls' lives in creative, challenging, encouraging and life-changing ways to help every girl believe and live our motto: Every Girl Matters!

Housing and many, many meals are provided. Most weekends are open unless we are on an extended trip. The first 2 weeks include orientation, planning and training.
