Minnesota Valley Electric Cooperative (MVEC), a progressive south west metro member-owned utility with 100 employees, is seeking an Accounts Payable Associate to join the team.

TheAccounts Payable Associateis responsible for entering and processing invoices timely via MVEC's accounts payable processes. Issue Vendor payments weekly according to vendor terms and/or on an as needed basis. Prepare periodic reporting and account reconciliations, and AP monthly close.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Enter and audit invoices for accuracy, accrue sales tax accordingly, processes payments to leverage vendor discounts, and work with vendors to resolve billing discrepancies. Reconcile Vendor Accounts to their statements and reconcile AP subsidiary ledger to the AP General Ledger.
• Periodic, Monthly and Annual Reporting such as Annual 1099s, Account Reconciliations, and AP monthly close.
• Enter and process all of MVEC's corporate credit card transactions, reconcile transactions to the monthly statement, and submit transactions without documentation for employee payroll deductions.
• Maintain Vendor demographics: address, terms, payment method and tax identification number using updated W9s.
• Backup to other accounting positions.
• Lives the Spirit of Our Cooperative.

Required Qualifications:

• Accounting Certificate and two years of related accounting experience OR four years of related accounting experience. *One year of related education equates to two years of related experience
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Excellent written/verbal communication skills
• Ability to keep privileged information confidential
• Aptitude for setting priorities while efficiently performing duties and creating an atmosphere that reflects professionalism, consistent with the objectives of the cooperative
• Demonstrates initiative and motivation to organize and complete tasks and meet deadlines, acting independently and with minimum supervision and direction, and with persons at all levels.
• Ability to accomplish/complete a task while demonstrating a thorough concern for all the areas involved, no matter how small.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Two-year Accounting Degree and two years of related experience
• Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)

Potential for future hybrid work schedule after one year of employment. Office located in Jordan, Minnesota.
