Job brief

Black Sage is looking for a Controller to join our team and contribute directly to team success and company growth. The ideal candidate will be customer-focused and possess the skills and experience needed to achieve contract success. This position will perform and oversee various tasks related to the team’s overall operations and financial management. The position will be located in Boise, ID.

Directs and guides the overall accounting functions of the Company. Establishes and maintains the Company's accounting principles, practices, procedures, and initiatives. Prepares financial reports and presents findings and recommendations to top management. May need to plan and analyze budget and cost statistics for internal control use. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining a DCAA Compliant accounting system and preparing Incurred Cost Submissions for DCAA submission, as required.
  • Implementing perfected internal process and controls to eliminate risk.
  • Responsible for project setup and proper revenue recognition for multiple contract types.
  • Prepare invoices and supporting schedules as required by the government and commercial clients.
  • Reconcile unbilled receivables on a monthly basis.
  • Supporting all accounting operations, including accounts receivable/billing, collections, accounts payable, financial reporting and analysis, policy and procedures, and GAAP, FAR, compliance.
  • Perform secondary review of expense report accounts payable vouchers ensuring FAR compliance.
  • Supporting month-end and annual general ledger close process.
  • Supporting year-end financial audit process, including interaction/correspondence with external
  • auditors.
  • Responsible for preparing timely and accurate financial statements, including preparation of consolidation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Generally works in normal office environment.

Reporting Relationship

  • The Controller will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer.

Education / Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Must have government contracting industry experience. Candidate must have a solid understanding of federal contracts, full accrual accounting and working knowledge of FAR and DCAA compliance requirements.
  • 3+ years of DCAA and financial management experience in the federal marketplace
  • 2+ years hands-on experience with accounting systems such as Deltek Costpoint
  • Experience processing and submitting ICE reports to DCAA
  • Hands-on experience with CPFF/Cost Plus Contracts
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Excel - pivot tables, formulas
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • High attention to detail, organization, time management and a self-starter
  • Experience with hands on accounting with small to medium size businesses and ability to roll up your sleeves to get things done
  • Current US Secret clearance or higher, or eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite of tools
  • Proficient in Deltek Costpoint

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Masters Degree in Accounting or Finance
