OVERVIEW

The Corporate Project Engineer, Power Generation will provide engineering support across the group to improve equipment reliability, operating efficiency, safety and service quality with a focus on Boiler and Powerhouse operations at each refinery. The Project Engineer is required to manage all major aspects of design and construction associated with assigned improvement or new projects within the refinery. Responsibilities span all phases of the project execution cycle including gathering requirements, preliminary design, cost estimation, project evaluation and justification, equipment procurement, layout, design, construction management and commissioning. Most projects involve a high level of coordination with existing plant operations and lend themselves to a "hands on" style, with the candidate working in the field a significant amount of time to assist in project execution.


DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Improve the reliability and safety of the Boiler and Powerhouse equipment by working with the local sites to develop and implement improved inspection, condition assessment, and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Participate in the troubleshooting of major equipment, including unplanned outages and breakdowns.
  • Serve as an effective team member in assessing and improving current Boiler and Powerhouse Operations, including developing SOPs and optimizing efficiencies.
  • Develop SOWs for project work / equipment installation.
  • Prioritize workloads and advocate for needed projects and changes.
  • Field verification of project details, progress, and strict adherence to engineering/design specifications.
  • Hands-on supervision of contractors and coordination of labor.
  • Work closely with Operations to provide feedback, select equipment, evaluate designs, and develop project budgets.
  • Ownership and involvement in all aspects of Capital and Major Maintenance projects – from preliminary design through to project execution. This includes designs, calculations, layouts, schematics, budgeting, schedules, bid specifications, etc.
  • Identification and implementation of plant energy and water improvements via Continuous Improvements or Capital Investments.


WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering, manufacturing, process or power generation environment required.
  • Experience in water-tube boiler operations, and gas turbine & steam turbine operations strongly preferred.


EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical preferred)

  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects with overlapping tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems, develop solutions, and quickly implement their strategy.
  • Strong organization skills, attention to detail and follow-through to resolve any outstanding issues.
  • Proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Experience with SAP, AutoCad, and drafting principles a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to lead, supervise, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Effective management and control of project costs and schedule.
  • Good technical understanding of process modeling, energy, manufacturing equipment, and unit operations.
  • Familiarity with relevant OSHA and other safety regulations and requirements.



LOCATION OF ROLE

  • At one of the US refinery locations (Crockett, CA or Yonkers, NY or Baltimore, MD or New Orleans, LA)
  • 30% travel domestically (USA & Canada)
