POSITION: Development Specialist, FT Salaried
REPORTS TO: Executive Director

RESPONSIBLE FOR: Tasks are to include the lead role in all development administrative tasks as specified below, and a significant supporting role for grant applications and the planned major donor campaign, including donor cultivation and follow-through. Also, assists in the implementation of affiliate communication, outreach, and marketing strategies and general administrative duties at the affiliate. The Development Specialist and the Executive Director will identify metrics of success for years one, two, and three with progress reports given in person by the development specialist to the Executive Committee and/or Board of Directors at the January
(mid-year) meeting(s).

POSITION SUMMARY: The Development Specialist will ensure the efficient and effective administration and implementation of the affiliate’s resource development, including but not limited to: assisting Executive Director in setting fundraising goals, managing all aspects of capital campaigns, endowment fund information distribution to donors, donor contact and cultivation, grant writing, and implementing a planned giving program that supports the strategic plan of
RAHfH.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, administer, and monitor the fundraising plan, in coordination with the Executive

Director. Provide monthly updates to Executive Director.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with current and potential sources of financial donations.
  • Coordinate efforts to reach fundraising sources not yet tapped by RAHfH.
  • Identify and initiate individual, government, church, corporate, educational, and youth group partnerships/sponsorships; maintain effective communication with all affiliate partners.
  • Support the Marketing/PR Coordinator on ad hoc committees with particular focus on major donor events that require volunteer participation.
  • Initiate and produce grant proposals, solicitations, case statement, presentations, reports, and acknowledgements as related to the strategic plan.
  • Explore regional, state-wide, and national fundraising opportunities with HFHI, VA Resource

Development office and elsewhere.

  • Manage and assure accuracy of donor database and mailing list. Coordinate database management with Bookkeeper/Administrative Assistant /Marketing/PR Coordinator for effective social media, newsletter, and email blast communications with stakeholders, including donors

  • Maintain relationship with endowment benefactors.
  • Other duties as assigned by Executive Director.

Other duties, ideally under purview of Development Specialist:

  • Create a planned giving and legacy program.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing/PR Coordinator in creating brochures and memoriam/honorarium thank-yous to support the planned giving program marketing.

Skills Requirements

  • Outgoing person with excellent verbal, written, listening, and presentation skills; strong administrative, networking, organizational, and motivational skills.
  • Database management experience and the ability to maintain accurate records and prepare timely and meaningful letters, reports, newsletters, PSAs, etc.
  • Team player, able to work collaboratively and effectively with and among diverse populations. Must also be self-guided and able to solve problems independently and effectively.
  • Understanding of board relations and committee functions.
  • Experience with information management, office administration, and nonprofit resource development and donor cultivation.
  • Knowledge of annual fund appeals, designated funds, donor event planning.
  • Interest in or demonstrated ability to raise money through individual and corporate giving programs, including major gifts and sponsorships, donor events and grant writing.
  • Experience with the issues surrounding poverty.
  • Able to work collaboratively and effectively with and among diverse populations.
  • Commitment to Habitat’s mission and principles.

Pay: $43,000.00 - $53,000.00 per year
