Elementary Principal

Qualifications:

  • Possess or be eligible for Michigan Administrator Certification within three years of appointment in accordance with Public Act 101 of 2012
  • Possess a valid Michigan Teacher Certification.
  • Master's degree or equivalent graduate coursework from an accredited college or university. (Curriculum/Leadership emphasis preferred.)
  • At least five years of successful teaching experience.
  • Possess and be able to articulate and share a compelling vision of what a successful school should be in order to best assure the success of all students.
  • Demonstrates the ability to assess the needs of a building culture and implement strategies and programs to nurture diversity, differentiation and positive supports among students, staff, and families.
  • Knowledge of data-driven school improvement planning in order to facilitate professional learning communities, study groups, and targeted intervention and enrichment programs.
  • Possess experience as a teacher leader in the development, implementation and evaluation of school improvement, curriculum development and extended day opportunities at a building and/or district level.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with other administrators, teachers, parents, students, auxiliary staff and community at large on such professional concerns as curriculum, community relations, supervision, performance evaluation and policy making.
  • Be a team leader who capitalizes on the talents of all staff, including all members of the administrative team in the planning and decision making process of running an elementary school.
  • An understanding of current educational research, concepts and instructional and management/supervisory strategies which are recognized as effective in meeting the needs of all students, staff and community.
  • Possess an understanding and commitment to the time obligations and rigor imposed upon an elementary principal.
  • Demonstrate interest and participation in a wide range of professional growth opportunities through such activities as advanced coursework, in-service programs, conference attendance and/or other related activities.
  • Demonstrated and verifiable record of excellent, positive and productive relationships with students and student organizations and a commitment to equal opportunity for all.
  • Understanding of Trauma Informed Instruction/Restorative Practices
