The Sinsinawa Mound Center, a 450 acre organic farm, convent and retreat center 9 miles from downtown Dubuque, IA and 18 miles from UW-Platteville is offering a paid summer internship to students who desire hands-on experience in organic, sustainable, and regenerative growing practices. This position will offer a unique experience in establishing a permaculture garden while helping manage a vegetable garden that provices produce to the residents, employees and guests of the Sinsinawa Mound. In addition to local food production efforts, major ecological restoration projects are ongoing at the Mound, an excellent opportunity to learn about prairie and savannah establishment. Sinsinawa hosts a Collaborative Farm for beginning farmers, offering still more opportunities for growth and learning through the continuing educational events offered to farmers.

Daily tasks will include:

Tending, planting, weeding and caring for garden plants

Propagating and caring for plants in the greenhouse

Harvesting from gardens, orchards and a vineyard.

Operating tractor, tiller, BCS, mower

Applicants:

Must be at least 18 years of age

Must be able to work outdoors throughout the summer

season’s heat and humidity

Must be able to lift 40 pounds

Compensation: $13.50 Per hour

Paid seasonal position; roughly 30-40 hrs/week or based on your specific internship requirements

Sinsinawa Mound is a significant geological formation in the Driftless region of Southwest Wisconsin. This sacred site offers a unique and biodiverse setting which includes wetlands, prairie, woodlands, stone, food and farming, wildlife, and humans. Here, present and future generations will deepen their understanding and practice of just relationships with Earth. The Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa presently hold this place in trust.
