Grant Writer, Development

STATUS: Full time. Salaried. Exempt. 40 hour work week on average. In Office.

DEPARTMENT: Development

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

  • Fingerprinting and background check are required. Must clear all background checks.
  • Reliable transportation; current driver’s license; FL State driver insurance coverage required.
  • Evening and weekend availability may be required for special events, trainings, community events, etc.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

  • A Grant Writer is responsible for finding funding opportunities for an organization and writing polished proposals to earn grant money.

RESPONSIBILITIES (Include, but are not limited to):

  • Prepare and maintain annual grants calendar that manages proposal and report deadlines and tracks results of grants awarded and denied.
  • Research, write and submit grant proposals for funding from private, public, and corporate foundations
  • Monitor program or agency compliance with grant requirements as needed
  • Report to funders on use of grant funds according to funder requirements
  • Develop and nurture relationships with funder contacts
  • Review and follow-up declined grants for input and future success as necessary
  • Provide reports on grant awards as needed for board meetings, finance committee meetings, etc.
  • Research new potential grant funding sources using tools such as GuideStar and Foundation Directory Online
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and well-organized paper and electronic files

Education, Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Media, or related field
  • Minimum of 1-year experience in grant writing, prospect research, general fundraising or a minimum of 2 years comparable and transferable skills acquired in a professional setting
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Much of the work is performed in the FFC offices, which are well lighted and adequately ventilated. The noise level in the working environment is usually moderate. Transportation to and from offsite locations is required, which will result in exposure to temperature changes. Conditions at off-site locations will vary considerably.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Mental effort – use of listening, critical thinking and problem-solving skills when interacting with employees, volunteers, donors, clients, and community members. Ability to multi-task.
  • Physical Requirements – long periods of sitting, working on a computer, walking to various work areas, going up and down stairs, talking on the phone, working with office/computer equipment, attending meetings, and sitting at desk or table while listening, talking, and taking notes. Standing during meetings as presenter and/or facilitator. Able to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
