Summer 2023 Internship: This position is located at our HQ in Durham, NC. Expected program dates are May 15 – August 18, 2023.

Introduction:

Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions (TGCS) is seeking an Intern to join the Retail Innovation team. This role is open to students currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program or master’s degree program, majoring in computer science/electrical engineering. The intern will support the research, evaluation, and development of start-of-the-art Edge devices for use in potential retail technology market opportunities. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of undergraduate study in computer science/electrical engineering, and a passion for learning and research.

Areas of Expertise & Special Skills:

• Current pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering.
• Basic understanding of programming language like Python is a plus.
• Basic knowledge of Linux is a plus.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to learn quickly and work independently on assigned tasks.
• Ability to collaborate with diverse team members as needed.

Responsibilities:

• Setting up and managing electrical, and electromechanical hardware in a lab environment.
• Testing prototype hardware including use of lab equipment such as Oscilloscopes and other measurement equipment.
• Reading Schematics to understand the logic design and define minor changes that may be required for testing of alternate designs.
• Configuring lab systems which may include: OS installation (primarily Linux), Installation and usage of SW on Linux and Windows platforms, Directly executing lower level commands.
• Performing other duties as directed.

This position helps to expedite Innovation Demos and Proof of Concepts defined by the business.

Applying academic concepts in a real-world corporate setting; working with state-of-the-art Edge devices and Artificial Intelligence concepts to provide input to PoCs and Demos.
