POSITION SUMMARY:

Boston Medical Center is seeking Nurse Practitioners for its Clinical Stabilization Services (CSS) program at its 82-bed behavioral health hospital located in Brockton, MA. BMC Brockton operates as a behavioral health accountable care organization providing cutting edge treatment and stabilization for individuals experiencing complex mental health and substance use needs.

The Nurse Practitioner at the 26-bed CSS program will be a critical part of a multidisciplinary team providing integrated medical and behavioral health care to patients seeking treatment for substance use disorders. The Nurse Practitioner works collaboratively to provide services with a passion for excellence in clinical care and the Boston Medical Center mission.

Nurse Practitioner CSS - Behavioral Health (Brockton) - Per Diem

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
  • Provide evidence-based evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of patients who have substance use disorders
  • Provide Medication for treatment of opioid, alcohol, and tobacco use disorders, and for management of withdrawal-related complications and symptoms as indicated as part of a "whole-patient" approach to the treatment of substance use disorders
  • Manage complications of substance use, such as cellulitis, minor abscesses, hypertension, HIV risk (prescribing post-exposure and pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV infection
  • Manage needed preventive care, such as vaccination and harm-reduction education
  • Provide treatment with an inclusive, non-stigmatizing approach in a harm reduction framework
  • Participate in the development of treatment plans, measure progress against the plans, and make adjustments as needed
  • Provide treatment either independently or with physician supervision in accordance with Massachusetts regulations
  • Complete all necessary clinical documentation in an accurate and timely manner
  • Collaborate with a broader team of physicians, nurses, recovery specialists, and behavioral health counselors to assess and adjust treatment plans
  • Coordinate and communicate with aftercare coordinators, family members and other stakeholders regarding treatment and care
  • Participate in the teaching of students and other trainees

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:
  • Master's Degree from a Nurse Practitioner education program accredited by a Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing-recognized national accreditation body

EXPERIENCE:
  • Two years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner or five years of experience in Nursing preferred but candidates who have a strong interest in working with patients who come from underserved populations are encouraged to apply
  • Experience treating patients who have substance use disorders

LICENSURE:
  • Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Current valid DEA certificate and MA Controlled Substances certificate or eligibility
  • Buprenorphine waiver required or willingness to acquire waiver

CERTIFICATION:
  • Current advanced practice certification by Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing-approved nationally recognized certifying body as an adult NP (including family, acute, or behavioral health certification)

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • No Medicare or Medicaid sanctions

Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience treating substance use disorders
  • Demonstrated interest in treating a culturally and socio-economically diverse patient population
  • Spanish language fluency
