Summary of Job:
The Payroll Tax Specialist will oversee the complete set up and registration of state, local and federal taxes, ensuring timely processing, accuracy and compliance with all federal and state regulations. Responsibilities include managing payroll tax compliance and serving as the expert for taxation of wages, and state and local mandates. Responsible for monitoring, managing and reconciling payroll taxes at the employer and employee level. Will also support the processing of payroll, maintaining related records and contribute to enhancements of payroll policies and procedures.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent experience in Accounting, Human Resources, or Finance.
  • 5+ years of US payroll tax experience including quarterly/annual reconciliations.
  • Knowledge setting up state income, state unemployment, and local jurisdiction profiles.
  • Working knowledge of multi-state taxation compliance.
  • Working knowledge of Workday Payroll and ADP Smart Compliance.
  • CPP certification preferred
  • Advance knowledge of Excel and proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to manage risk and exercise judgement to resolve/escalate issues. Exercise discretion when handling confidential matters.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments to resolve payroll tax issues.
  • Exceptional time management skills and a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Respond to tax agency notices including abating penalties, providing missing information and clearing delinquencies.
  • Review all payroll tax agency notices and ensure proper compliance and resolution on federal, state and local jurisdictions (maintain and log notices).
  • Perform quarterly reconciliation and data analysis between tax liabilities.
  • Lead and coordinate year-end, balancing wages, and timely processing for accurate W-2.
  • Communicate directly with tax jurisdictions as well as third party vendor ADP regarding tax inquiries/notices from federal, state, and local tax agencies.
  • Supports the Payroll team in the preparation and processing of bi-weekly payroll.
  • Analyze and respond to complex matters, processing adjustments as necessary, requiring comprehensive knowledge of payroll policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with timely and accurate reporting of all payroll taxes.
  • Perform internal and external audits as requested.
  • Act as a key liaison for employee questions. Research and respond to tickets on a variety of employee questions in a timely manner, with an emphasis on educating employees on compliance issues.

Compensation for this role ranges from $59,259 - $73,902. Additional compensation is considered for vast experience.
