Opinion Dynamics seeks a Principal Consultant (Quantitative Research Consulting) to join our Consulting and Advisory Services team. As a Principal Consultant, you are the cornerstone of a project team, connecting our clients with the internal expertise needed to answer their key questions. In this role, you will lead projects that involve significant engagement with our Data Analytics group, requiring an understanding of relevant analytical methodologies and approaches, an interest in driving innovation, and the ability to effectively translate complex analyses and their results to a range of non-technical audiences. In this role, you will also be responsible for managing technical and consulting staff on projects, as well as serving as a staff supervisor. The ideal candidate will have experience performing complex modeling and analytic tasks, as well as managing research studies that involve data analytics. A successful candidate will be able to thrive in the agile and dynamic environment of a consulting firm and is excited to partner with a multidisciplinary team of data scientists, statisticians, data analysts, and programmers.

In this role, you will be responsible for the following on a day-to-day basis:

  • Developing research and evaluation plans that adhere to industry best practices
  • Overseeing, and contributing to the execution of research plans, ensuring that objectives are achieved, results are accurate, and recommendations are actionable
  • Conducting quality control of work products including surveys, analysis, and reporting
  • Effectively managing project scopes, schedules, and budgets to meet client needs and contract specifications
  • Designing research strategies and methods in collaboration with other team members and functional teams (e.g., data analytics and management, market insights and engineering)
  • Authoring memos, reports and presentations for clients and other external audiences
  • Developing and presenting executive level results and recommendations
  • Providing training and mentorship to less experienced consulting staff
  • Writing proposals to win new projects

QUALIFICATIONS

We’re looking for staff with a dynamic toolkit, who demonstrate strong analytical and communication skills; excellent time management and organizational skills; effective project management skills; an ability to think out of the box; and the capability to lead our project teams.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, quantitative social science, statistics, political science, economics, computer or data science, or related field
  • 3-5 years of experience working on quantitative data analysis, including econometric modeling or data science, ideally in a consulting environment
  • Advanced analytics and modeling /data science skills, including model evaluation and validation best practices
  • Strong programming skills in Python and/or R (including the usual data science stack)
  • Highly motivated, with a demonstrated track-record of thinking critically about your work and clearly communicating with other project staff and managers about your work
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate with clients. Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong record of guiding teams and managing projects of various levels of analytic complexity, including client management, budget management, and staff management
  • Ability to effectively manage project scopes, schedules, and budgets to meet client needs and contract specifications
  • Overseeing, and contributing to the execution of research plans, ensuring that objectives are achieved, results are accurate, and recommendations are actionable
  • Ability to juggle and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously and flexibly
  • Experience managing and mentoring a team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD in statistics, economics, engineering, or related field. An advanced degree and substantial coursework in statistics or data science is a strong plus
  • Demonstrated experience in the energy field, especially in Energy Efficiency, Demand Response, and Distributed Energy Resources
  • Programming skills in other programming languages (Spark, GIS, SQL etc.)
  • Experience with version control software (e.g. Git) and collaborative code development
  • Experience with data science and machine learning methods
  • Experience with experimental and sample design
  • Demonstrated aptitude with data visualization tools and techniques (e.g. PowerBI, Tableau)
  • Experience working on a collaborative, cross-functional team
  • Experience with distributed computing
  • Expertise with data engineering in the context of advanced analytical modeling
