SUMMARY OF POSITION: Point of contact for all production work cell related issues. Determines the effective use of assigned personnel and optimal operation of equipment residing in the cell. Minimizes scrap by reviewing first piece production and performing spot checks during production runs to ensure that all required processes are completed and production parts meet both internal and external quality requirements. Responsible for directing cell personnel and maintaining machine operation or finishing processes. Responsible for effectively communicating the production needs of the cell with the off-shift supervisors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide leadership guidance to personnel assigned to cell to ensure production schedules are completed and good quality parts are produced.
  • Direct employee assignments to meet production schedules and ensure jobs are being produced in an efficient manner.
  • Responsible for overseeing and maintaining machine operations.
  • Develop production standards. Ensure that all required processes are completed to produce parts that meet quality and ISO standards in a timely manner.
  • Inspect product for compliance to requirements at all stages and administer piece approval.
  • Troubleshoot problems with machines and programs in order to meet production needs.
  • Responsible for completion and quality of all required documentation, including inspection reports and shop travelers.
  • Ensure that all programs, inspection reports, and shop travelers are accurate and contain all necessary information in order to complete the job in an efficient manner.
  • Participate and develop scrap reduction activities through analyzing data.
  • Track production orders throughout process to ensure customer deliveries are met.
  • Develop and maintain schedules using 6S to ensure a clean work cell.
  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
  • Train, assist, and support employees in producing quality parts and in completing all process requirements.
  • Ensure all policies and procedures are followed and safety precautions are taken to reduce the risk of injury.
  • Discipline individuals or groups using corrective action system when policies or procedures are not followed.
  • Ensure required preventative maintenance is completed on equipment.
  • Must be available on reasonable notice for unscheduled overtime to meet production schedules.
  • Responsible for the completion of performance reviews as well as recommendations for promotions of individuals residing in the cell.

OCCASIONAL DUTIES:

  • Assist Manufacturing Engineer, Programming, and Quality Engineer.
  • Assist production in all areas.
  • Assist with tooling/fixturing build.
  • Occasionally, miscellaneous, non-recurring duties may be assigned such as, but not limited to, packing, shipping, unpacking and sorting, inspection, cleaning, finishing, deburring, etc.
  • Some travel may be required to offsite suppliers and customers.
  • Once employee demonstrates competency in position, he/she may be required to train others in similar roles.

EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION: High School graduate or equivalent. Five to eight years CNC machining experience. CNC programming or experience preferred with ability to edit programs. Previous leadership or supervisory experience required.

SKILLS: Ability to work with minimal supervision. Excellent problem-solving skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize accordingly. Ability to read blueprints with knowledge of GD&T. Complete knowledge of G-codes. Ability to be a team player. Good leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills a must. Ability to mentor and train others.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work environment: Work performed in a production environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time (for Maintenance & Receiving only). The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high, in some areas.
