Research Associate 2 – Engineer in the Center for Automotive Research (CAR) coordinates and conducts research on modeling, optimization and optimal control, both model-based and data-driven, of advanced automotive propulsion systems, with application to connected and automated vehicles (at the individual and fleet level); prototypes and tests controllers on hardware and designs testing scenarios; prepares and presents paper/reports; writes, edits and/or approves progress and technical reports for sponsors; edits research results for publication and presentation; assists in identifying, writing and preparing proposals to pursue new funding opportunities; plans and coordinates meetings with industrial partners; conducts internal and external research meetings; schedules and oversees graduate student support on related projects. The research will be part of an interdisciplinary and highly collaborative team, working on multiple research projects with students, CAR-affiliated faculty, and senior research staff

Experience:
Required: 2 years of experience in model-based optimization and optimal control with application to automotive and transportation systems; experience with engineering software for mathematical simulation (Matlab/Simulink)and control platform (dSpace, ETAS, microcontrollers); experience in model-based control and modeling design in Matlab/Simulink.

Desired: Advanced degree with specialization model-based optimization and optimal control with application to automotive and transportation systems. Considerable experience with designing experimental setups for validation of models and control algorithms. Experience with machine learning and control prototyping (SIL/HIL) is highly desired.

Targeted Hiring Range for this position is $67,700 to $90,300
