Research Associate to join the high energy research team in the Department of Physics in the College of Arts and Sciences. Performs research and experiments involving the design and construction of state-of-art electronics for the collider experiment detector to be installed at a national or international laboratory off campus . Other responsibilities include performing electronics engineering for physics experiments, assisting the PI with manuscripts for publication and supervising student assistants.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in physics, engineering or related area. One year of experience in physics research or electrical engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Ability and willingness to travel both nationally and internationally is required.

Desired Qualifications:
Master’s degree in physics or engineering with three years of experience. Desired experience and skills include: ability to assist in the design of digital electronics from schematics to board layout and stackup; ability to program firmware - schematic and HDL source (verilog and VHDL); ability to solder through-hole and SMT components; ability to troubleshoot and repair electronics boards using an oscilloscope and troubleshoot issues with testing stations; ability to work with vendors for fabrication and assembly of PCBs; ability to work with CMS collaborators worldwide to assist in solving system issues, maintain electronics and firmware deployed at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland.

The target hiring range is $42,700-$56,900 annual. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, the unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
