Position Summary
Thrive Umpqua’s School Wellness Coordinator is an exciting opportunity to provide support for school health and well-being as part of an established community-wide well-being initiative located in Roseburg, OR. This role provides support to schools in Douglas County in implementing evidence-based policies, projects and initiatives. The School Wellness Coordinator will collaborate with school administrators and the Thrive Umpqua Schools Committee to successfully advance each school district’s health and wellness policies and programs to improve well-being for students and staff in the areas of healthy nutrition, social emotional wellness, physical activity and tobacco prevention.
Essential Responsibilities (Duties include but are not limited to the following):
Provide outreach, guidance and support to schools in achieving the student and staff wellness goals of each District.
Develop strong relationships with local school districts/independent schools to encourage their participation and support them in becoming recognized for their efforts through the America’s Healthiest Schools Awards Program.
Build partnerships to advance goals with school boards, school district staff, appropriate other public agencies, various interest groups, and families.
Assist with the development and implementation policies that promote student and staff health.
Collaborate with relevant District departments to ensure internal alignment of efforts to achieve District wellness goals.
Establish and lead District and/or School-specific Wellness Committees and offer guidance to School and District Wellness Committee on ways to improve current policies to support increased student and staff wellness.
Educate staff, students and families as to the links between healthy eating, overall wellness, disease prevention, physical performance and achieving academic potential.
Coordinate with community organizations to provide nutrition education, physical activity, tobacco/vaping education and other options to support school wellness program offerings.
Support research to benchmark and evaluate District health and wellness programs.
Assist in identification of systems and processes to track progress in attaining a culture of wellness, school performance/value measures and outcomes, utilizing quantifiable and data-driven rubrics, including preparing background documents, fact sheets, and other communication materials.
Facilitate a community collaboration of education professionals through the Thrive Umpqua Schools Committee to provide best practices and assist in planning and implementing District wellness and health programs.
Support professional learning opportunities for school staff and stakeholders to develop and implement key school wellness initiatives.
Participate in community awareness and education events.
Assist in developing health education materials and promotional materials.
Work collaboratively with the team and with a positive attitude of service to the community.

Skills
Exceptional writing, verbal and interpersonal skills, including public speaking.
Ability to establish relationships with administrators, employees, and students to promote participation in sponsored programs, and to motivate and encourage them to set and reach their health goals.
Ability to be sensitive to the diverse perspectives of stakeholders and work with them to solve differences.
Ability to conduct benchmarking analysis, environment and culture assessments to aid in program development.
Ability to integrate well-being program initiatives into culture and organizational mission.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point), Adobe Acrobat, Google Apps including Google Drive; and other online collaboration tools.
Knowledge of:
· Nutrition, physical fitness, social emotional well-being and tobacco/vaping standards
· Research and data collection methods and techniques
· Public speaking and public relations, principles and practices
· Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment
Ability to:
· Travel to various off-site and school locations around Douglas County
· Provide own transportation to sites during workday
· Work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as necessary
Qualifications:
· At least one year experience with project management, development and implementation
· Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Nutrition/Dietetics, Health Education, or other similar field from an accredited college or university
· Experience in lieu of education considered

Part-time employees earn 1 hour of PTO for every 30 hours worked in addition to 11 paid holidays. This position does not include a health or retirement benefits package.
