The Senior Clinical Research Manager is responsible for the full scope of clinical research operations and compliance oversight for RCSD’s clinical trials. This includes operations and management of clinical trials, research development, recruitment, budgeting, billing, and personnel administration. The Research Department Manager will work closely with the Practice Administrator, Principal Investigators/Directors of Research, Clinical Research Organization (CRO), and the RCSD leadership team. This position reports directly to the Practice Administrator. The Senior Clinical Research Manager will manage a team of about 8+ research employees in Poway, CA working in Ophthalmology retina-only research. The team includes: Clinical Research Manager, Clinical Research Lead, Clinical Research Coordinators, and Research Assistants.

The Senior Clinical Research Manager Responsibilities:

• Leads and manages the work of multiple clinical research studies and/or multiple research sites.
• Collaborates and consults with Principal Investigators and study teams on the design, development, and conduct of clinical research studies and on clinical research best practices.
• Develops and oversees the implementation of best practice guidelines for conducting various clinical research protocols.
• Assists the principal investigator in developing study budgets. Works collaboratively with other financial managers to monitor study budgets and prepare budget reports and invoices.
• Assists the principal investigator in preparing study progress reports and annual reports.
• Manages regulatory submissions, including preparation of IRB applications, amendment submissions, and annual reporting.
• Manages communication between the research department and other clinical departments
• Be the point of escalation for the CROs for issues that can't be resolved at the study level.
• Manages and trains research staff. Conducts the Performance Management process.
• Ensures work is performed in conformance with established RCSD, federal, and state policies and procedures.

Qualifications Education/Training/ Experience:

• Extensive knowledge and experience with clinical research operations and compliance such as working with IRB and getting research protocols approved
• Experience with research budgeting and billing
• Prior experience with Real-Time or other CTMS strongly preferred
• At least three years of leadership related experience such as training and mentoring on research.
• At least three years of clinical or basic science research experience required
• Prior experience running a clinical trials program preferred
• Ophthalmology experience preferred

Salary Range: $70,000-90,000 Annually
