Scope of the position: The Food Applications Scientist is responsible for product development, flavor development, food formulation, product evaluation, validation, and new food application development.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Evaluate and validate flavor, product, and food formulations
• Create and manage customer driven projects to achieve formulation with new and innovative ingredients, cost reduction, product matching, favor enhancement, flavor masking, and clean label improvements
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders as needed to define specific parameters, objectives, and timelines for projects
• Scale up formulas from kitchen/lab-scale environment to pilot plant and production
• Generate suggestions for improving work
• Develop innovative approaches and ideas
• Develop presentations tailored to target market
• Prepare and develop concepts into demonstrations for Sales department
• Handle simple to complex flavor/product/food formulation projects in a timely manner
• Prioritize and plan work activities for efficient use of time and resources

Education and/or Experience:

• Master’s degree in Food Science or equivalent
• 5 years’ experience within food research and development, applications with food ingredient and formulations, or flavor development applied to product development
• Experience within dairy industry preferred

Competencies:

• Demonstrated ability to promote new innovative ideas, demonstrate feasibility, and commercialize successful ideas
• Ability to use processing equipment in lab and pilot plant with minimal supervision
• Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders
• Technical expertise and critical thinking for effective problem identification, analysis, and resolution
• Accountability
• Proficiency with Office 365 applications

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand for variable hours at a time while working on the bench
• Ability to bend, kneel, twist, climb, stoop, crouch
• Ability to lift, move, or carry up to 50lbs
• Ability to don PPE when hazards are present
