Urban Forestry Intern

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 18 years of age, possess high school diploma, and be currently enrolled in a BS or Master’s degree program with major in in urban forestry, ecology, horticulture, arboriculture, landscape design, or a related field.

REQUIREMENTS: Must pass a criminal background investigation (including Child Abuse, FBI, and PA State Police backgrounds) and possess valid driver’s license.

NATURE OF WORK PERFORMED: This position participates in fieldwork activities including tree identification, tree inventory, and visual assessment of trees in urban and natural settings. Intern will learn about tree and other natural resource management and proper safety practices. Start date is June 5, 2023 and runs for a 8 week period. Hours of work are 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: Conducts record keeping; tree inspections; data entry and clerical work including sending and tracking notifications; researches land records; issues permits; monitors licensing requirements; and other general office duties.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Landscape design, ecology, or woody plant experience preferred but not required; strong written and verbal communication skills are essential; computer experience including working knowledge of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint required; self-motivation and ability to work independently required.
