At Guide Dogs for the Blind, we create exceptional partnerships between people, dogs, and communities. With a network of instructors, puppy trainers, donors, and volunteers, we prepare highly qualified guide dogs to serve and empower individuals who are blind or visually impaired throughout the U.S. and Canada. We are looking for an experienced and strategic Vice President of Client Engagement and Impact to join us at our San Rafael, CA location. With a laser focus on our mission and vision, you’ll ensure that the ever-changing needs of our clients are at the center of all decisions we make, while providing leadership in the development and implementation of client programs and services.

What you’ll do:

· Guide the strategic direction of our client-based programs and initiatives, including Client Outreach, Client Research, Youth Services, Advocacy, and directorship of the Alumni Association

· Design, implement, and evaluate services to meet the needs of alumni through programs that strengthen alumni relationships, enhance communications, develop prospective students, enhance public education, and raise funds

· Supervise advocacy programs to support our long-term success, including identifying legislative initiatives that support the independence of our clients

· Develop and maintain productive relationships with consumer groups, partners, businesses, and other organizations/individuals to enhance our visibility, increase awareness of our scope and mission, and identify opportunities for new partnerships and programs

· Serve as liaison to professional organizations of private agencies for the blind to affect positive development of services for our current and potential clients

· Conduct research to better understand the changing needs of our current and potential clients and make recommendations to the Executive Team

· Publish and present research topics in professional journals and conferences to share knowledge that can positively impact the lives of people experiencing vision loss

· Serve as a spokesperson for the organization via various media channels, including radio, TV, and print

· Help determine strategic directions, priorities, and policies to ensure the relevance and long-term sustainability of GDB

· Recruit, train, motivate and evaluate the Client Engagement management staff

The qualifications you’ll need:

· Five or more years of progressive managerial experience required; experience developing and managing an alumni association or similar organization highly desirable

· In-depth knowledge of the blindness population, service delivery, and available resources

· Undergraduate degree; graduate degree in the field of blindness or MBA preferred

· Strong record of innovation, team building, direction setting, and leadership

· Strong communication and presentation, organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; and the ability to create and manage budgets, priorities, and workflow

· Demonstrated understanding of governance – as a board member, reporting to a board, or related governance experience

· A record of leadership in working with blind and visually impaired individuals, groups, and organizations

· Knowledge of technology used by people with vision loss, web experience, Braille, etc. very desirable

· Able to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and travel up to 30% of the time

· Graduate of Guide Dogs for the Blind highly desirable
