Overview

Indiana University Health is looking for a dynamic, strategic, and results-oriented leader to join their Human Resources leadership team as the Vice President of Learning and Development.

The Vice President of Learning and Development will be responsible for building a best-in-class Learning and Development Center of Excellence that accelerates the growth and development of all IU Health team members, enabling the workforce to achieve the organization’s strategic priorities. This leader will formulate a philosophy and strategy for team member and leader development. The strategy will be integrated and aligned with the business strategy and will incorporate both clinical and non-clinical roles and pathways. The Vice President will anticipate capabilities needed to execute on strategic priorities and lead cross-functional efforts to deliver business impact through innovative and strategically targeted learning initiatives that equip IU Health’s workforce with capabilities needed for success. This leader will coach, mentor, and oversee a team of approximately 20 team members dedicated to supporting the successful design and implementation of the learning and development strategy.

This leader will have the opportunity to contribute in the following ways:

  • Learning Transformation – Transform and innovate IU Health’s internal learning strategy and prepare its workforce for the evolution of skill sets needed to compete in the healthcare marketplace and creating learning experiences that will serve as a competitive advantage.
  • Strategic Relationship Management – Develop mutually beneficial relationships (internal and external), drive change, and establish a high level of credibility with senior leadership.
  • Thought Leadership – Bring unique insights and ideas to influence new direction and thinking in learning and development. Serve as the learning industry expert and share forward-thinking perspective to enable the organization’s constant evolution of skills and capabilities.
  • Team Leadership – Create a compelling learning and development vision and support the creation of a high-performing team to ensure the achievement of strong outcomes across the health system. Motivate and engage the team to bring the learning and development vision to life by building, implementing, and measuring impactful learning experiences.

Additional Responsibilities Include:

  • Designing a comprehensive career architecture, including the creation of competencies and learning pathways by role group.
  • Ensuring the delivery of a best-in-class onboarding experience for new team members that is sustained beyond the new-hire stage.
  • Establishing and overseeing systemwide Learning Governance efforts.
  • Providing expertise in how to embed, integrate, and prioritize learning and development within the busy lives of all of our team members.
  • Ensuring that the team member experience in our Learning Management System is optimized and intuitive, leveraging the latest functionality in the Oracle roadmap.

Candidate Qualifications

Candidates for the position will be selected from a diverse pool and will be evaluated according to the following criteria and competencies.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree in Adult Learning, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Organization Development, or Human Resources preferred.

Experience & Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant and complex experience is required, including experience leading teams.
  • Related professional designations and licenses are preferred.
  • Proven experience developing, implementing, and overseeing large scale development programs and/or initiatives in a large, highly matrixed organization with multiple executive stakeholders.
  • Strong track record of anticipating, designing, and implementing learning interventions with demonstrable business impact.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and modern learning tools and technology.
  • End to end understanding of linkage between business strategy, strategic workforce planning and capability development.
  • Strong data acumen capability with competence in leveraging data for quality insights.
  • A proven leader of people able to build and manage high-performing teams committed to achieving and/or exceeding goals and objectives.
  • Must be innovative and always seeking how to push the boundaries of adult learning & development while also possessing a relentless focus on practical application.
