JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for providing personal care and designated health-related services designed to maintain the resident's physical and emotional well being.

RESPONSIBILITIES/ DUTIES:

• Assist the resident with personal cares which may include all or some of the following: Shampoo hair, assist with showering, apply lotion, fingernail care, foot cares (if instructed to do so), medication administration, redirection of a confused resident, and other cares as assigned.
• Assist with dressing, grooming and oral cares as assigned.
• Assist in use of hearing aids and glasses for residents.
• Help each resident to reach and maintain the highest level of performance and independence.
• Assist with treatments as delegated by the Registered Nurse.
• Observe resident and report changes in physical and emotional condition such as change in attitude, loss of appetite, weight, etc.
• Medication administration/ assistance as delegated by RN.
• Prepare meals in resident's apartment following special meal plans if instructed.
• Take and record temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration as instructed. Report changes or concerns to RN per instructions.
• Attend in-service training as assigned.
• Follow cleaning schedule per shift worked.
• Lead resident activities as scheduled and assigned.
• LANGUAGE SKILLS:
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence and documentation on each resident.
• Ability to effectively present information on one-to-one and small group situations to customers, residents and other employees of the organization.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Must understand and communicate using specialized medical terminology.

• Must be punctual with a good attendance record.

• Must be mature and emotionally stable using calm and kind tone of voice, remaining calm in difficult or unusual circumstances.

• Promote independence, not dependence, with residents offering choices and fostering self-help skills.

• Must be able to prioritize and organize work effectively and efficiently.

• Must be flexible and adaptable to changing situations.

Must be compassionate and work with tact and ethical awareness.

• Must work as a team member with all other facility personnel.

• Must demonstrate good interpersonal skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to minimal.

Inside work while assisting residents.

Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens and infectious diseases. Exposure to cleaning chemicals.
