Duties, Responsibilities & Other

BBFoster Consulting, PC is looking for bright and highly motivated college students (rising juniors, rising seniors or rising graduate students) to support and learn from our talented and diverse team of engineers, planners, scientists, and construction managers.

The intern will work under the supervision of a technical manager within one of BBFoster Consulting's client opportunities which include many diverse consulting, engineering, scientific, or design practices to gain exposure to real world projects and daily work tasks. Summer interns will work a 40-hour week, with at least 10 weeks of work required during the period from mid-May to the end of August. Interns will be assigned a dedicated supervisor and mentor, are required to attend planned activities, and must submit mid-summer and end-of-summer reports/presentations.

Depending on the selected candidates’ career field, the duties may include:

Assist in the development of plans, quantities and cost estimates

Conduct data analysis and reporting

Complete field surveys or laboratory assignments

Conduct entry level engineering, design or drafting

Prepare engineering studies and coordinate design plans with other design disciplines

Apply quality control procedures in alignment with ISO.

Communicate with client(s) on a limited basis

Provide on-time delivery of project expectations with favorable feedback

Perform administrative or office management duties.

Qualifications

Enrolled in a college Engineering program.

MicroStation or AutoCAD skills desired but not required.

No experience required.

Minimum GPA 2.7

Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.

Performance Expectations

Comply with all BBFoster Consulting policies and procedures

Coordinate with other sub-consultants as required

Complete other duties as required/assigned

Attend bi-weekly(or more frequently as necessary) meetings with project team on all projects/tasks

Complete all tasks on time and within budget while fully meeting the scope

Compare field data to base plan

Conduct site visits and gather data, including measurements, sketches, notes and photographs as needed

Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications and cost estimates for review and approval

Review shop drawings /construction plans

We are looking for a Construction Inspector to join our team in Birmingham. A successful candidate will have at least five years of experience as a Construction Inspector, as well as proven experience in the analysis of quality control and production methods and techniques. The ideal candidate will have experience in the construction industry, an interest in safety, and an understanding of the importance of following safety regulations. This is an excellent opportunity to work with and learn from a team with years of experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspect construction sites to make sure that buildings and frameworks meet code requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with codes based on local and national standards.
  • Determine the quality of construction materials.
  • Prepare reports for construction companies, developers, clients, and others.
  • Provide safety recommendations and training to construction team members.
  • Provide guidance to and supervise support staff in order to complete projects on time and within budget.
  • Be able to manage multiple projects at once.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $19.00 per hour
