The Reading Science Center is a hands-on science museum for children. Our mission is to foster a love of Science through exciting and experiential STEM education for the Greater Reading community, especially our youth.

This is a part time position reporting to the Educational Program Director. The instructor will administer high-quality, hands-on, inquiry based STEM education for The Reading Science Center. This position will ensure a safe and nurturing educational environment for the youth in Berks County as they participate in programming such as field trip events during the school day, after-school clubs and weekend special programming.

The instructor’s responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

• Collaboration with the Educational Program Director to plan, organize, and successfully administer STEM programming to students likely ranging from preschool to 7th grade.
• Exhibit effective communication skills with participants, staff, volunteers, and community members.
• Cultivate and maintain a welcoming, inclusive, nurturing, educational, and safe experience for participating youth.

Requirements:

• Soft Skills: Detail-oriented (quality and precision-focused), People-oriented (supportive and fairness-focused), Team-oriented (cooperative and collaborative).
• Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college. Experience in an educational environment
• Documented background and/or extensive interest in STEM preferred.
• Ability to successfully pass PA State Police, FBI Fingerprint, and Childline Child Abuse background checks is required.
• Language: English. Bi-lingual in Spanish is a plus.

Schedule: We are looking for a candidate with weekend, afternoon, and early-evening availability. Flexible availability is strongly preferred.

Work Location: on-site at The Reading Science Center and on location at surrounding schools.
