Job Summary:

Simpsons Printing Prepress Designers are the interface between the graphic designer/customer and the shop’s production team. Files generated by customers and the prepress department must be reviewed so that project proofs and print files can be accurately prepared in compliance with job specifications and company quality standards, as well as customer expectations. Applicant should have a working knowledge of the Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat, in addition to Microsoft applications such as Word and Excel.

Responsibilities and Duties: Prepress / Design

• Create and design logos, newsletters, calendars, and much more using a thorough understanding of design principles, color theory, and professional design practices.
• Receive and manipulate files electronically from email, FTP and other transfer means.
• Preflight and troubleshoot customer digital layout files, load fonts, inspect graphics, fix bleeds, fix folds.
• Layout and impose files for numerous press room printing processes.
• Produce calibrated proofs and/or pdf soft proofs for customers.
• Scan or photograph customer artwork and color correct as needed.
• Archive completed jobs for safe keeping and for easy retrieval.
• Perform routine computer maintenance, including software updates and utility maintenance.
• Provide training, advice, and education to customers on the preparation of digital files and general graphic design.
• Keep current on latest technologies and software tools.
• Team Player - willing to offer help to the team/other departments.
• Happy and upbeat personality to clients and fellow employees.

Prefered Experiance

• 1 year of print production experience and a working knowledge of printing industry terminology, practices, and procedures.
• 1-3 years year of experience as a graphic designer or a degree in Graphic Design.
• Up-to-date knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat, Illustrator, Word, Excel.
• Ability to work independently, creatively, efficiently, under pressure and under deadline.
